As human beings we have ambitions and we are always looking for ways in which we can set high goals and get everything we ever dreamed of. Second Life is a way of being able to experience and live a life that is far away from reality. Something that started as just that, a game turn into a website millions of people use daily. In here we can become whatever we desire, dress, eat and do anything that comes to mind.

Even though this game offers a lot of advantages it also has its cons and one of them is that at a certain point people will start to use it as a way to escape from reality and hide from what the real world is all about. Many say this is a very flexible game but I believe that even a second life can bring problems, after all its life!

HOW OBAMA DID IT

By using MyBo, current President Barack Obama was able to have a successful campaign. MyBo gave the opportunity to many people to donate money, organize events and control the media in a way that catch many people’s attention. Technology became a weapon that was well used by Obama to keep people informed about all the updates of his campaign. This was great way of getting the people engaged and of letting them be a part of what became and very controversial and successful campaign.

I believe it was a good idea to use this as a way of getting to the people, because now days almost everybody is connected to the net and it makes it easier for us to have access to the things that are going around the world instead of waiting for the 6PM news or a newspaper.

Little by little picnics, shopping, trips to the library or even department stored have become part of the past. All of these activities that once were part of a teenager’s regular routine now seem to have been replaced with Aim, MSN, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and any other social network. But, is having a computer a reason for this or is it simply the fact that a computer is accessible at any place and time? Maybe having a computer is not a problem, the real problem begins when we click on the internet icon and in just a second we open a window to a whole different world, a world in which one should learn how to be responsible before entering. The internet has become a world in which not only do adults have access to but also teenagers and kids. According to many statistics about 90% of teens are already connected to the web, a number that continues to grow. But why have all these teens decided to spend hours and hours surfing the web is a question many parents and teachers would like to know, when in fact the answer is very simple.

As a teenager myself I can simple say that for me the internet is just a way of keeping in touch with people I don’t usually get to see and it’s also a way of keeping myself entertain while learning new things at the same time. It’s true that it can became addicting at time but once we learn how to control it everything become so simple. For other teens the internet is a way of expressing themselves and entering a virtual world, a world away from the responsibilities of the real world and a world largely hidden from their parents.

Teachers and parents now wonder, how can they stop this phenomenon, when in fact they are the ones responsible for this. As a child I remember being introduced to a computer for the first time in school by one of the teacher and learning how to use the internet as part of the science class. They are the ones that introduced me to this and my parents didn’t stop me from this so called “virtual world” when they decided to buy me a computer at the age of 7.

I know the internet is a very dangerous place for many kids and teenager as well as for adults, but I also believe that the internet is a very good source, a source we all depend on.
